You know that moment where you sit at your desk, open your laptop and decide to finally read that article that you have open on your browser next to the other fifty articles you have open, and within a minute of reading, you’re distracted and tell yourself that you’ll read it later? If this sounded specific, it’s because it is my everyday life. I am notorious for opening fifty tabs of articles that I promise myself I’ll read someday, only to shut most of them in a week. Luckily, I have found something that has helped me with this tremendously. It’s called Pocket and it is a site that allows you to keep all of these open articles safe and secure, and off of your browser, for you to go back to and read at a later time.

My current Pocket main screen

To help explain this further, I’ve made some flow charts to show my experience before using Pocket and after.

It clearly shows, Pocket has helped me with a lot of the pain points that I had with having tons of articles open on my browser that I hoped to eventually read.

Now let us talk about some of the patterns used by Pocket. The most used pattern on Pocket is the vertical menu of options to help you stay organized.

Dropdown menu for Pocket

This allows the user to quickly jump from page to page and find things that they have tagged easily. This includes just the highlights from articles that the user has already read and highlighted.

My personal favorite feature

They also have an option for the user to change the screen from dark mode, to light mode, and sepia if you want the feeling of reading a really old newspaper. It also allows you to change the way in which the articles are laid out on the page for easy navigation.

These features make Pocket a really helpful assistant for when you feel overwhelmed by having too many tabs on your browser.
